The Humboldt School Senior Apartment Project was a multi-funded Senior Housing Project in Alton, Illinois involving new construction and renovation and adaptive reuse of two turn-of-the-century structures. The 4 million-dollar project included creating 14, one and two bedroom apartments within an 1884 elementary school and its 1908 addition. The new construction is an addition, sensitive to its historic counterparts in design and materials, housing 30 one and two bedroom apartments.
A grade elevation change of nearly 20 feet from one end of the site to the other presented challenges that the final design overcame with numerous points of entry and two elevators at the buildings offsets.
The project was completed within budget and ready for occupancy in September 2000 prior to the scheduled completion date.
